  Keduo 8 silage maize mixed and ensiled with Astragalus adsurgens Pall. at the ratio of :0, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2 and 0:1, respectively, the nutrient compositions and content of poisonous substances in all treatments determined. The result showed that with increasing proportions of Astragalus adsurgens Pall., the pH value and crude protein content raised while the neutral detergent fibre and acid detergent fiber had a descending trend. Mixed silage could raise the amino acid content. Aflatoxin content of treated silages were higher than those of initial herbage, respectively while the zearalenone, nitrite, nitrate, 3-Nitropropionic acid content were lower. The nutrient and amino acid content of the mixed silage of 1/2 maize and 1/2 Astragalus adsurgens Pall. were relatively high and the contents of poisonous elements were reduced which was the ideal mixed silage treatment.

  In order to evaluate the effect of moisture content on the silage quality of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) three levels of moisture content (85, 75 and 65%) were tested in the experiment. The results indicated that the value of ammonia nitrogen to total nitrogen ratio, the contents of volatile fatty acid, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber were decreased significantly with the decrease of moisture content whereas the content of dry matter, crude protein and water-soluble carbohydrate were increased significantly. It was concluded that moisture content at a level of 65% was best for Italian ryegrass silage.

  In order to reduce the flow force and radial jammed force on the spool and raise the anti-cavitation performance of the spool valve, CFD simulations were adopted to analyze the influences for the forces (include the flow force and radial jammed force) on the spool and the lowest pressure value around the notch by the factors such as the ratio of the areas (the ratio of the flow area through the notch and the flow area through the annular space after the notch), the axial length of the annular space after the notch and the arrangement of the inlet and outlet passages of the spool valve. The result indicates that: along with the increase of the ratio of the areas, the radial jammed forces on the spool increase in one direction and the flow force on the spool decrease in the notch closing direction first and then increase in the notch opening direction; the spool valve has the strongest anti-cavitation performance when the ratio of the areas is 0.5; when the length of the annular space after the notch increases, the variation law of the forces on the spool is the same with the increase of the ratio of the areas but there is the optimum length with which the valve has the best anti-cavitation performance; when the inlet and outlet passages are in opposite direction, the radial jammed force on the spool reduce a lot. This research provides a theoretic base for the designers of the spool valve on board the ship.

  A new species of the genus Protocobitis, was discovered in an underground water source (110 m depth) located about 5 km away from the county town of Wuming, Guangxi, China, in May 2006. The new species, Protocobitis polylepis sp. nov., is distinguished from the single congener by the following characteristics: 1) light black pigmentation present vs. no pigmentation; 2) entire body covered with scales except for its head and abdomen vs. rudimentary scales present only along the midline of the body; 3) head length 24.1%-24.8% of SL vs. 19.8-22.1% of SL; 4) body depth 16.2%-16.3% of SL vs. 11.5%-13.0% of SL; 5) Inner rostral barbel length 19.8%-21.0% of head length vs. 9.4%-11.8% of head length; outer rostral barbel length 28.6%-30.2 % of head length vs. 15.3%-21.8% of head length; maxillary barbell length 44.6%-46.0% of head length vs. 22.4%-31.8% of head length.

A nemacheiline loach Yunnanilus jinxiensis sp. nov. has been discovered in collections from a Pearl River Drainage in Ludong village, Jingxi county, and Guangxi of China in May 2008. Yunnanilus jinxiensis is a new member of the Yunnanilus pleurotaenis group. It can be distinguished from all other congeners in this group by the following characters: body entirely covered by scales, except between pectoral fins and pelvic fins; lateral line present, with 15–20 pores; dorsal fin with 8 branched rays; pectoral fin with 13–14 branched rays; the air bladder has two chambers, the anterior ones into bony capsules and a large free posterior chamber, filling body cavity; caudal fin slightly emarginated; body depth 3.9–4.6 times the standard length (SL); head length 4.1–4.4 times SL; caudal peduncle depth 7.5–9.0 times SL; eye diameter 5.5–6.7 times the head length (HL); interorbital width 2.2–2.4 times HL.
