ABSTRACT
The main purpose of commonly used MPEG format, among many other video formats, is to reduce the size of video. We present a new algorithm designed to further reduce the size of MPEG files and it can be applied to several other types of video or non-video files. This algorithm applies matrix folding to the files to reduce their size by half and it is easily reversible without any degradation of picture quality. The algorithm is fast enough to be used in real time with some video systems such as NTSC. We present experimental results that demonstrate the efficiency of our algorithm.
