ABSTRACT
Studies on the feasibility of Aspergillus flavus biomass as a biosorbent to remove cadmium, lead and zinc from their solutions were carried out using shake flask experiment. The effect of different initial metal concentrations and biomass concentrations on single, dual and tri-metals system was investigated. The biosorption of Cd2+, Pb2+ and Zn2+ were determined using two sorption isotherm models. The Langmuir Isotherm Model fitted well to the data of biosorption of cadmium, lead and zinc by biomass of A. flavus, suggesting that the uptake of cadmium, lead and zinc were chemical, saturable and equilibrated mechanism. The non-linear Scatchard plots reflected that multiple binding sites were involved in cadmium, lead and zinc biosorption by biomass of A. flavus. Lead was the highest adsorbed metal in single metal system.
