ABSTRACT
Using Virtual Prototyping Technology (VPT) and Finite Element Method (FEM), a virtual prototype of the crankshaft and link mechanism of an air compressor was created by Pro/E and ADAMS. Then base on this virtual prototype, the kinematics and dynamic simulation of the mechanism were conducted in ADAMS. Not only the law of motion of crank-connecting rod mechanism and kinematics simulation was implemented but also the corresponding relation between piston displacement and crank rotation was obtained, which is convenient for calculating the piston displacement of each endpoint and the corresponding crank angle in the working process of an air compressor. Then stress and strain analyses are carried out by NX-NASTRA software. The result can be got that the crankpin fillet with link arm of crankshaft is prone to stress concentration and the fatigue life for the crankshaft will be also affected by alternating stress which are produced in cyclic conditions. It is of great importance for increasing the fatigue life of the crankshaft, as well as providing reliable conditions for the next step for strengthening crankshaft fillet rolling process.
