ABSTRACT
An efficient protocol was developed for direct plant regeneration, multiplication and rooting in in vitro condition of Momordica charantea Linn. locally known as "karalla". Nodal segments and shoot tips from in vitro grown seedling were cultured on MS medium supplemented with different concentrations and combinations of cytokinins (BA, KIN) and auxins (NAA, IAA) for direct shoot regeneration. Best response towards multiple shoot regeneration was obtained from the nodal segments of Momordica charantea Linn. on MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg l G 1 BA + 0.2 mg l G 1 NAA. In this combination, the frequency of multiple shoot regeneration response from nodal segments was 95% and average number of shoots per explant was 8.20 " 0.26. The length of the longest shoot was 5.20 " 0.21 for nodal segments cultured on same combination. Efficient rooting was achieved on half strength of MS + 0.5 mg l G 1 NAA. About 90% of the regenerated plantlet survived in the field condition.
