ABSTRACT
A histochemical investigation on the distribution and localization of nine dehydrogenases in the nephron of the one-humped camel, Camelus dromdarius was undertaken. The histoenzymological tests employed in this study detected glucose-6-phosphate, -glycerophosphate, succinate, lactate, malate, glutamate, isocitrate, NADH and NADPH dehydrogenases. The functional significance of the findings is discussed in accordance with the adaptation of the species under study to its harsh desert habitat.
